Drive-By Shootings

No!  Not THAT kind of shooting . . . I live in Galmi, not The Bronx!  These were all taken from the bus window on the drive to and from Maradi.  Thought you'd like to see the view.
The round domes on the left are used for grain drying and storage,  on the
right children draw water from the local well.
Women waiting by the road.
The local wildlife.
A little girl wanders outside the gate of the family compound.
(I love the mattress leaning against the tree!)

Two girls return from the village well.

Men load up sacks of Galmi's famous onions to sell in the cities.

I'd like to assume the kids are all heading to school.

Women selling grain on the side of the road.
Drawing water from the community well.
A shepherd with his herd of goats

A woman selling food on the side of the road.

Two girls carry water home from the well.

Women draw water from a well.

Onion fields at a village near Galmi.

Sacks of onions ready to sell.

Pardon my ignorance, but what are the balloon-shaped buildings behind the women selling food by the side of the road?

Those are for drying and storing grain (mostly millet).

These are beautiful pictures Deb! Thank you so much for sharing them with all of us back home. It actually seems like an enchanting place, despite how hot and dry it looks. Now... the only thing that's missing is a picture of YOU.
